What is a Sauna?

Simply, the word ‘sauna’ describes any heating system intended to create profuse sweating. Saunas are thought to have originated in Finland around 7000 BC. The earliest known sauna structures were dug into the earth and lined with stones.

Today, modern saunas are typically timber-framed rooms heated with Infrared Heaters, hot stones, wood stoves, hot embers, or electric Rods. They can be indoors or to some extent outdoors.

What does a sauna do?

Saunas have long been used for therapeutic and relaxation purposes and have been a part of traditional medicine for many centuries.

For thousands of years people have benefitted from ‘sauna bathing’ that heals the mind, body and soul. The high heat is believed to provide immense health benefits including reduction in stress levels, increasing metabolism, detoxification, and relieving muscle and joint pain.

The wavelength of Near Infrared is the shortest of the three infrareds, absorbed just below the surface of the skin, promoting wound healing, cell health/regeneration, skin revitalization and can mitigate inflammation, while MIR can help with inflammation, pain and decrease overall healing time. Other benefits of infrared sauna include weight loss and the expansion of blood vessels, which leads to improved circulation.

MIR helps expand blood vessels and increases circulation so more oxygen can reach injured areas of the body. This reduces pain and speeds the healing process.

Being the longest wavelength, FIR penetrates the deepest also and is extremely effective in trapping toxins and chemicals.
